20th Century Boys

Title underline

 trio
A conspiracy to destroy the world based on some nonsensical plans you came up with as a kid with your friends? An ultimate villain who was one of your clique but you can't remember who it is? A cult that preaches love for all and seeks to destroy all who oppose? A bunch of ordinary people saving the world from the clutches of evil?

Sounds far-fetched? But really, this is the situation Kenji finds himself in. He works hard at the franchise convenience store he owns (converted from the liquor store his father ran - his mother still cannot forgive him for that) while taking care of his sister's illegitimate baby daughter. Back in the past he and his friends came up with out-of-this-world ideas on how they would shape the world - and now it seems one of the gang has started on a project to turn it into reality.

20th CB's greatest strength is the excellent storytelling - everything falls in to place perfectly, and as a reader you are forever one step behind the truth (as are the protagonists), chasing the shadow but never really seeing the whole picture. Parts of the past fall in to place as you read, adding new shades to the characters which are incredibly well developed, despite being mainly "stereotypical" people.
